I went through this myself recently. It was an ordeal (days) just to be able to view the error. Once I saw what the error was I fixed it within seconds.
Are you familiar with the "inspect" window on the chrome browser? In the top right corner is a window that says "elements." On that same menu is "console." Switch from elements to console, and see if any errors show up.
Can you get into your hosting account's control panel? You can change your php.ini file to display errors. That's a bit of an ordeal if you've never done it before. And you have to be very careful or you'll ruin your board entirely. But I can give you some tips if the above doesn't work for you.
There's a "debugging" mode in phpbb but I didn't have success with that, when I had my problem.
